EVOLUTION is a sci-fi tryptic that depicts the story of a dystopian future where humans are rendered extinct by an inter-dimensional alien race of beings.
The theory behind the orientation and composition of the three images is that a future civilization could use this piece as a historical record. Reading from left to right describes the eradication of humans and the planet wide takeover by a technologically superior species.
INVASION, as the center image, functions as the fulcrum of the narrative through it’s diagonally structured composition. Humans are forced out of frame in the bottom left by the invading aliens who are targeting the human with their hyper-advanced digital weaponry as they dominate the top left of the composition.

By studying sci-fi film and imagery of the 1950’s I derived a composition that touched on the quintessential archetypes of this fantastic era; then infused my own concepts. I designed the alien race by modeling their figure, weaponry, and spaceships. The lighting and materials I used, brought this species to life as I arranged them, and the human figures, across a canyon landscape that I downloaded.

Finally, I faced my fears of mixing my designs with downloaded assets by populating the landscape with a scattering of grass, rocks, and the tree stump in the bottom right. Eliminating animation from the equation allowed me to explore designing a highly complex composition without having to consider mise-en-scène.

I printed EVOLUTION using risograph printers. Then I sold the prints on my Shopify page. I found bringing my digital work into the physical was a deeply gratifying process.
